Why are my emails not coming through

My email PST is POP/SMTP. I send numerous business emails on a daily basis. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to why the majority of my emails DO go through and why some do NOT go through. There is not way for me to know which emails do not go through, UNLESS I hear from a customer informing me that I haven't responded, when I have!
